ULTRAMARATHON ISLANDIAD VOLCANO June 25 to July 5, 2021

VOLCANO ULTRAMARATHON ICELAND is a sporting event organized by VOLCANO EXTREME SPORTS, LIMITED COMPANY, established in accordance with Spanish law.

VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON ICELAND is a 250km race divided into 7 days, 6 stages, multistage discipline without assistance. Each competitor must carry a backpack containing their mandatory equipment, food and personal equipment. Participants must follow the route marked by the organizers, have a road book or a map. ULTRA MARATHON VOLCANO takes place in the month of JUNE 2021 (June 25 to July 5).

VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON ICELAND will be held in June (ICELAND) with the following itinerary:

VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON reserves the right to modify the rules and conditions of VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON. The details of the race, the route of the race, including the destination, in case of force majeure beyond our control or if necessary for the safety of the group.

VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON is open to anyone over 18, of any nationality who accepts the rules and conditions of the race. An official medical certificate and an ECG report at rest are mandatory and must be dated no more than 30 days before the start or the race. Registration fees must be paid by the participant before the event.

The administrative, technical and medical check-up will be done on day 2 according to the established plan. Participants must comply with all administrative and technical requirements (ART. 16 and 17). Any participant who does not meet all the required conditions can be excluded from the race without reimbursement of the fees paid.

The outputs for each stage will be grouped. Participants must start at the time indicated by the organization. The time limit per stage is 10 hours and 20 hours for the long stage. During this stage, cp4 (approximately km 60) will close 18 hours after the start. Anyone who has not crossed checkpoint 4 within 18 hours will be disqualified. An official timekeeper will eliminate the daily order of arrival of each competitor. If a participant is outside the time limit or stops running at a checkpoint, they can start again the next day if the medical staff gives a favorable opinion. In this case, the competitor remains in the general classification, being classified by his stage time plus the total cut-off time of the stage he leaves, including a -1, -2, -3 thus the number of stages he leaves, classified by partial abandonment.

Participants must follow the route marked by the organization; if they do not, they can incur sanctions of varying severity depending on the particular stage. The course will be marked approximately every 500 meters. There are several natural landmarks that will serve as additional benchmarks. A road book will be explained and detailed in the technical talk before the event, the marking will be done days before the start and in the hours before the start of each stage. You will be penalized if you don’t have your road book during the race.

The checkpoints are at regular intervals (approximately 12 km) at each stage of the race. There are between 2 and 8 control points depending on the stage distance. Competitors must pass through checkpoints, otherwise penalties will apply. Water distribution points on both the start and arrival lines of each stage of the day are mandatory control points. Control points will allow career staff to record schedules and distribute water. A medical assistance will be available at checkpoints. Camp will be installed every night, participants will sleep in tents in these camps.

The organization is responsible for supplying water to each competitor. Each participant must manage their own daily water intake based on the scheduled water distribution schedules / locations. Water will not be supplied at any other time.

Normal stage: 10 liters on average per person per day

  • 2 liters before departure
  • 6 liters during the race
  • 2 liters on arrival

Uninterrupted stage: 18 liters on average per person per day

  • 2 liters before departure
  • 14 liters during the race
  • 2 liters on arrival

Reason for penalty – Elimination:

  • The document is missing in the administrative checks before the event
  • Use of a transport during the competition
  • Do not respect the organizer’s safety instructions
  • Behavior judged by the organization as disrespectful and / or dangerous for the group or the environment.

Reason for penalty – Maximum penalty of 3 hours:

  • Do not respect the weight of the backpack (minimum weight 5kg / maximum 15kg)
  • Lack of mandatory equipment
  • There is no road book or there is no itinerary map (do not carry or carry)

Reason for penalty – Maximum penalty of 2 hours:

  • Do not follow the marks
  • Lack of passage at a checkpoint
  • Breach of respect for the environment

Reason for penalty – Maximum penalty of 1 hour:

  • Do not respect the ID marks and / or their positioning (ID and / or patches)
  • Receive extra food or water

Reason for being in the results by partial abandonment:

  • Exceed the maximum time allowed on the stage
  • Exceeding time at a checkpoint (only in queen stage)
  • Competitor who received supervision, but with a positive medical validation to continue the competition

In case a competitor leaves the race, he must inform a representative of the organization and give him his race number. No competitor can leave the race without informing the organization and sign an official withdrawal form as stipulated by VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON

Several options are available for participants who wish to withdraw from the race:
In the case of a serious physical condition, repatriation can be organized immediately, with own or external means that the organization can manage.

  • A participant who is in an adequate physical condition, but wishes to retire can choose to be taken to the hotel of reference, having signed an official download form of VOLCANO ULTRA MARATHON. This option depends on the feasibility at that time. Accommodation and meals are the responsibility of the competitor.
  • Leaving the race, the competitor can be transported by the organization every morning from the starting point to the night camp, being able to volunteer and help the staff.
  • Leaving the stage, the competitor can be transported to the camp, being able to leave the next day if the medical service and the competitor himself estimates. (This will be penalized in classification, this stage abandonment action has a maximum of two dropouts, the third would be career abandonment)

* If a competitor does not exceed 70% of the race or the entire Queen Stage will not be Finisher of VolcanoUltraMarathon.

The time of each competitor is indicated in hours, minutes and seconds. Classification with time: the daily ranking of the race is calculated by adding the time that each competitor has taken to run that stage of the race, plus any applicable penalty. The general classification is calculated by adding times for each stage of the race.

Annex classification equipment

  • 12.1 Teams consist of a minimum of three or more people of any gender. Each team must designate a team captain and a team name.
  • 12.2 Any action against a competitor that is part of a team shall apply to the entire team.
  • 12.3 Team members must never be out of sight of each other, or alternatively, they must have a distance greater than 25 meters that separates the first team member from the last team member, the shortest the distance, while it is in the countryside. Team members must go through the start line, all control points and the finish line together.
  • 12.4 If a team member withdraws or is disqualified and this leaves the rest of the team with less than three people, this will result in the disqualification of the rest of the team from the Race Team Category.
  • 12.5 If a team is disqualified, each remaining team member can still continue in the Race in the individual category. If a team has more than three members, they can continue to compete in the team category as long as at least three of the original team members remain.
  • 12.6 The organization of the race may impose a time penalty on any competitor if, in their sole discretion, they determine that an unfair advantage will be obtained if the members of a team become individuals.

A medical team specialized in medical assistance in extreme sporting events will be present throughout the race and will have special assistance vehicles. They will ensure that participants do not suffer from physical or mental exhaustion. The medical team can stop a competitor and disqualify any participant who feels physically unable to continue the race or receive vital medical attention.

Three types of medical assistance:

  • Career assistance.
  • Camp Assistance.
  • Rescue and evacuation assistance in the race.

The race can be stopped if the organization considers it necessary for security reasons.

The mandatory equipment and personal belongings of each participant (food, survival equipment and equipment, etc.) must weigh between 5 and 15 kg. This maximum weight does not include your daily water supply.

Food: each participant must provide and load their own food for 7 days. Each competitor must have a minimum 2,000k / calories per day, that is, a minimum of 14,000k / calories, otherwise it will be penalized. Gas stoves are strictly prohibited. (see material list).

  • Cancellations made before 10/16/2020 at 3:00 p.m. will have expenses of 30% of the subscribers so far for registration.
  • Cancellations produced before 01/31/2021 at 3:00 p.m. will have expenses of 50% of the subscribers so far for registration.
  • Cancellations made before 03/08/2021 at 3:00 p.m. will have expenses of 75% of what has been paid so far for registration.
  • Any cancellation produced after 03/08/2021 at 15:01 will not be entitled to any type of refund.

* In no case after these deadlines will the refund of the registration amount be made, having the option of postponing participation for another of the VOLCANO EXTREME SPORTS events provided that the established obligations are covered.

Each international competitor is obliged to present assistance and repatriation insurance, each Costa Rican rider is obliged to carry a medical assistance insurance for sports tests with a minimum duration of 7 days. The certificate of this insurance must be provided in the administrative file before departure. Each competitor takes part in the full knowledge of the risks that the course of this competition may cause and exempts the organization from any responsibility in case of accident or physical problems.

The race number must be placed according to the instructions of the organizers and the names and logos of the official sponsors must not be hidden.

Volcano UltraMarathon reserves all exclusive rights for photographic coverage of Volcano UltraMarathon. Participants must accept that Volcano UltraMarathon has exclusive use of their individual or collective images for everything directly or indirectly related to their participation in Volcano UltraMarathon.

Each runner has been informed of medical contraindications that may affect their participation in the race and, consequently, acquits the organization of the race (including medical and technical staff) of any responsibility for medical problems or injuries they may suffer during the race. event.

All athletes are required to sign the disclaimer document to obtain the bib number.

You will participate in an extreme sporting event in an extreme environment, going through sleeping volcanoes, which can wake up without warning. Both the management of Volcano UltraMarathon and the local PC media will be in direct contact to solve any awakening of nature that is not in human hands to control, but to protect and evacuate their athletes. That is why VUM reserves the right to cancel the event for the safety of its participants when the security assessment team so requires, together with the decision of the local authorities.
